![]() ![]() You know it would be much easier and less stressful if the first show was in a smaller venue situation or in a different country but it was amazing! It was quite challenging for me and Chris Adler (Lamb of God Drummer, ) our drummer at that time. It was televised by Canadian TV and all that and we were there to play our first show together. ![]() The previous night they had Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones, so you can imagine the size of the festival! There were probably between 70,000 and 80,000 people there. It was a great experience! Quite challenging. ( ) In July I did my very first show with MEGADETH up in Quebec Canada! Then I left to Japan with ANGRA to do a few shows out there and immediately went down to South America to tour with ANGRA in June. We started to work on the DYSTOPIA album in April and May, recording all my rhythm & solo tracks in that time. Nearly a year later I had a meeting with Dave Mustaine in March of 2015, and right after that I hit the studio with MEGADETH in Nashville. KIKO – It’s been 2 years with Megadeth since our first contact in February of 2015. UNLEAVENED SHRED – Kiko! How are you brother!? Life has taken you on an upward path of success and adventure over the last few years! Can you give us a snapshot of how it’s been to tour and recording with Megadeth, winning a Grammy, being a new daddy? Then just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, he auditions for Megadeth and lands the gig! He bludgeoned us with brutal riffage on their newest album and was honored with a Grammy during his time with the band so far. You couldn’t have a virtuoso conversation without his name coming up along with the mainstays of the genre like Satriani, Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert etc… His Brazilian infused, classically influenced, full assault style of playing seemed to have placed him in the highest ranks of metal guitarists worldwide. Now if this is the first you’re hearing of Kiko’s greatness and contributions to metal guitardom, and are wondering why he deserves to go down in guitar hall of fame, just have a listen to the first track off his first album, and within the first 10 seconds you will have a full understanding of what all the buzz is about! I suggest listening as you read this interview so you can be thoroughly rocked while hearing his thoughts on the instruments that took him to the top!Īfter 4 solo albums, his name was everywhere. Luckily for all of us fans of shred guitar he followed his dream and released “No Gravity” in 2004 (which I’m rockin’ as I write this blog entry). Kiko had a playing style all his own that needed to be shared with the world as a solo artist. When you’re asked to play MONSTERS OF ROCK festival in Brazil, sharing the stage with big names like KISS, BLACK SABBATH and SLAYER., you know you’ve arrived! 9 Albums later their legacy lives on. Tapping into my dark tranquility įLAC level 8 | v1.2.This launched Kiko on one tour after another gaining notoriety and respect from the biggest names in the business. That was entirely different and although I do enjoy changes/enriching music/progressing etc I was somehow disappointed when it came out… I haven’t heard a single note yet, but judging from the sophomore album “ Universo inverso” in which Jazz & Latin elements were more dominant than ever, I wouldn’t expect something similar to “No gravity”. I noticed that every other edition has a different front cover, mine looks as if it’s inside-out…ĭon’t forget to check Kiko Loureiro’s upcoming album, due on March 25th. I’m only mentioning this because there must have been a mix-up while printing the booklet, or so I think. ![]() The copy I own was released by Icarus Music. It almost made me forget the first two fabulous Angra albums I so much adore…įor reasons unknown to me this CD has been issued by 4 different record labels within the same year □ There I’ve said it, and I mean EVERY word. “No gravity” is what “Not of this earth”/“Surfing with the alien”/“Flying in a blue dream” were for the 80s: ◆ Virtuosity/flawless technique/unparalleled skill/unrivalled dexterity: Check, check, check and check! ![]() ◆ Unforgettable songs and melodies you’ll remember for the rest of your life ✔ The latter has EVERYTHING I could possibly wish from a guitar-oriented record (and not only). That’s the most fitting description I can give to both Kiko Loureiro as a guitarist/composer and his first solo effort “No gravity”. ![]()
